As the Association for Social Research on the Four Generations of Rights, we held our panel discussion entitled “Earthquakes and Rights”, organized with the support of the French Institute for Anatolian Studies (IFEA) and the Galatasaray University Consortium, with a large audience in attendance. Our speakers—Nilgün Karasu (Antakya Environmental Protection Association), Sevim Çiçek (Human Rights Foundation of Turkey), Özlem Çolak (Independent Psychologist), Döne Kaya (Families Seeking Justice Platform), and attorney Ecevit Alkan (KalAntakya Association)—drew on their experiences in Hatay to demonstrate how natural disasters in Turkey have been transformed into humanitarian catastrophes marked by multiple human rights violations.
