Between April 30 and May 21, 2024, we organized a four-week seminar series at Galatasaray University titled “From Bourdieu to Wacquant: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Theory and Practice.” Aimed at graduate and doctoral students in the social sciences, the program discussed the relationship between theory and research practice, focusing on how Loïc Wacquant used Pierre Bourdieu's concepts in his field research.

In the first session of the seminar series, Elif Can addressed how Bourdieu's theoretical, methodological, and epistemological tools can be used in field research under the title "Bourdieu in the Urban Pot: Making Theory Speak." In the second week, Gözde Aytemur , in her presentation titled "The Bitter Taste of the Regional Stain: Theory in the Field," focused on the relationship between ethnographic data and conceptual frameworks, as well as methodological tools such as historicization and reflexivity.

In the third session, Tuğba Zeynep Şen , with her presentation titled “Marginality, Ethnicity, and Punishment in the Neoliberal Metropolis: Interdisciplinarity and Collaboration,” discussed the possibilities and challenges of research drawing from different disciplines. In the final session of the series, Loïc Wacquant , with his presentation titled “How to Study the City (in Turkey) with Bourdieu?”, addressed how Bourdieu's concepts can be used to build urban theory and analyze urbanization processes in Turkey.

The seminar series was organized in collaboration with IFEA, Galatasaray University Center for Social Research (TAM), and the Four Generations Rights Society Research Association .
